Re: Team V Man City (CUP)
The real conundrum is midfield. Kouyate won't be available for a while, Nortveidt is arguably needed at right back for the league games at least until a replacement is found, so do we really risk both Noble and Obiang in a cup game? Precious few alternatives available if either was to get crocked. Compounded by the same issue up front...Carroll is basically it now until the AFCON ends/ Sakho comes back unless we get someone in, apart from Antonio but if you're playing him in midfield to allow Fernandes to cover centrally then that's not an option either and nor is to rest him. The kind of game we could do with a couple of kids pushing for a place, maybe Samuelson, or Oxford if he was considered fit.

When does Burke come back?

Anyway, I would go for:

Adrian

Nortveidt (Byram coming on)
Collins/ Reid (fitness depending)
Ogbonna (needs must despite his busy festive period...Oxford to come on if fit and we are doing ok)
Masuaku (please God he's fit, we can't risk Cresswell)

Noble
Fernandes

Antonio
Lanzini
Feghouli

Carroll (Fletcher, or maybe even Calleri, as the game progresses)

Bench of Randolph, Oxford, Arbeloa, Obiang, Quina, Payet, Fletcher/ Calleri.

If that's true about Reid then yes play full strength team minus Reid.

Feghouli to start to see what he can do.

Save Reid for Palace in that case
Is Oxford ready to play yet?

Re: Team V Man City (CUP)
Adrian will start
Would like to see Byram for at least part of the game and he might start Noble and Fernandes
Feghouli should be well rested and am not sure there is anyone who needs leaving out of the squad entirely.
Kouyate and Ayew are away appearing on I'm An African Get Me Out Of Here of course.

Re: Team V Man City (CUP)
depends how you define resting. Winston has been playing with a tight hamstring for a month and every time he takes the field he's in pain, whilst the entire management and medical team cross their fingers and hope he doesn't break down. So no, he won't get criticism for leaving him out. It's the only sensible decision.

Perhaps those players, but I'd put Fegs on the right, Payet on the left, and Antonio up with Carrol.

If he does rest players for this, will he get a load of fury and vitriol thrown his way for not respecting the cup?

Re: Team V Man City (CUP)
Pep has just said he'll play a full stregnth team, as we are PL, they are away, and he wants to continue in the competition.

Bring it on, then.

I like Michael Oliver, he reads the game well and doesn't look to be the centre of attention.

I'd like us to go full strength as I think City will.

Did Bournemouth v Arsenal last night and did a good job.
Is probably the best going around at the moment.
Though there isn't much competition.

i think he will rest the players that started all 3 games over xmas on sports science advise (joke)

so no Randolph, Nordveit, Reid, Ogbonna, Cresswell and Payet

i reckon it will be

Adrian
Byram Oxford, Collins, Arthur if fit
Noble Obiang Lanzini
Feghouli if he wins appeal Fernandes
Carroll

with a full strength bench to come on
